Memorial Park – Hendersonville

Memorial Park is located in Hendersonville, TN.  It features lots of fun activities but the main draw for this park is:

DUCKS (and geese)!

Long ago, (in the 1980’s), you could take your stale bread, crackers and popcorn to the park and feed the ducks to your heart’s content.   But, apparently, that stuff wasn’t good for ducks.  It is very hard on their digestive system and inhibits them from learning to procure their own food.  Who knew? There is a machine where you can buy tiny amounts of food that is safe for the ducks and the fish in the lake to eat.  I am kind of sad that my own kids won’t get to watch a duck eat popcorn though because it’s just as funny as it sounds.

The park features one playscape.  This area was completely rebuilt in 2011.  (Thanks Taylor Swift!)  It has lots of slides, climbers, and swings.  There are benches and picnic tables within the playscape if you happen to get a moment to relax 🙂

The park has tennis courts and soccer fields.  There is ample parking.

There are two bathroom facilities.  Both are clean but lack changing stations.

One of the highlights of any trip to Memorial Park is a walk across the bridge.  The small bridge connects the main park area with a tiny island.  Don’t miss the opportunity to see fish and even more ducks as you explore the lake and small island.

Memorial Park also offers a pavillion for rent for parties, reunions, etc.
